STEEN vs. PHANTOM

The main event for our return to Skratch, is one with an old school feel - as former champion from the Skratch era, The Green Phantom, will take on the current IWS World Heavyweight Champion -“Mr. Wrestling” Kevin Steen.

These 2 men were scheduled to face off at last month’s Summer Slaughter, but thanks to a sneak attack on the Phantom by Beef Wellington and Sexxxy Eddy - the bloodied and battered Phantom was forced to bow out, and seek medical attention - only making it back for the very end of the show, where he confronted Steen. The extremely pissed off Phantom wanted his shot. Steen got on the mic, and stated that he didn’t want to defend against a Phantom who wasn’t at 100%. He urged him to go home, rest up, and on August 23 - as IWS returns to Le Skratch - bring the Phantom of old. The Hardcore hero, and former IWS World Champion.

Kevin Steen will face the biggest threat to his title on August 23, 2008 - at Le Skratch in Laval.

THE CANADIAN TITLE

Leading up to Summer Slaughter, it was announced that Kevin Steen had decided to vacate his newly won IWS Canadian Title - and a the opening round of an 8 man (7 man, 1 woman) tournament would take place at the show, in order to crown a new champion. The 4 men who were victorious in their respective matches, will go on to Hardcore Heat for round 2 of this tournament - with the final 2 men squaring at Un F’n Sanctioned to become the new champion.

The second round matches have been set, and on August 23 - we will see Samson take on Shayne Hawke in a rematch from Violent Valentine. And in what I believe is a first time meeting in the IWS - Excess will tangle with “Paranoid” Jake Matthews.

Matthews, Hawke, and Samson are all looking for their first taste of IWS gold. While, with a win at Hardcore Heat, and Un Fn Sanctioned - Excess could very well become the first man to have held a title in all 3 divisions.

Stakes are high.

A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT

Speaking of high - Cheech and Cloudy returned in July, after a lengthy absence, defeating The Untouchables in a fast paced, exciting tag team contest. The duo have one of the better win/loss records when it pertains to our tag title division - but haven’t received many title opportunities for it. IWS management took notice of this, and have granted Up in Smoke a title shot at Hardcore Heat.

However, here’s where the problem lies. Franky the Mobster and Twiggy are the reigning champions. Franky the Mobster is on the shelf with a pectoral injury, and has been for quite some time. Not wanting to vacate another title, management decided that a stand-in tag team champion can be chosen for this occasion. They called up Twiggy, to see if he had anyone in mind. He named 2 people. One of them being Kevin Steen, who is previously occupied on this show.

The other, however, was available - and accepted the booking.

On August 23 - Cheech and Cloudy will take on the newly named interim IWS Tag Team Champions - the teacher and student duo of Twiggy and EL GENERICO!

ANOTHER SUITABLE REPLACEMENT

Due to unforseen circumstances That came up during the writing of the last three paragraphs - Samson will not be present at Hardcore Heat this Saturday. His replacement, a man who has not been seen in an IWS ring in some time - The Black Jesus - Sabian.

Obviously, with that change in place, we will now see Sabian take on Shayne Hawke] for the chance to advance to the finals of the Canadian Title tournament.

REVENGE

On the topic of the tag team titles - former champions The Super Smash Bros. will finally get the opportunity they’ve been waiting for since March of this year. They will finally get their hands on Dan Paysan and Jimmy Stone - collectively known as The Untouchables.

It was the Untouchables who were responsible for the Smash Bros. title loss in a 4 team elimination bout - when after being eliminated - Paysan and Stone remained at ringside, and assaulted Player Uno with a chair, causing he and Stupefied to be pinned by 2.0.

That’s not all there is to it, though - as the winner of this match will receive a tag title shot at whoever the champs may be come Un Fn Sanctioned on September 27.

A REMATCH…KINDA?

At July’s Summer Slaughter, the “card may be subject to change” rule came into effect, as our main event went from a title match, to a 6 man tag involving Steen and 2.0 taking on Beef Wellington, Sexxxy Eddy, and the returning Hardcore Ninja. This Saturday, we’ll see a kinda-sorta rematch, as 2/3 of each team will collide - as 2.0 take on the team of Hardcore Ninja, and Sexxxy Eddy.

INQUIRING MINDS

Both Beef Wellington and IWS owner PCP Manny will be attendance at this weekend’s show. Beef has vowed to find out who Manny intends to bring to UnFnSanctioned as his third partner for the big Fans Bring the Weapons main event. It’s already public knowledge that The Green Phantom was chosen as partner #2. However, all bets are off when it comes to who else Manny will bring to square off against Beef, Eddy, and the ninja.

FIRST EVER

As we return to the venue where we started it all, IWS Management has decided to try to bring something new to the table. An event that will make the return to Le Skratch even more historic - as the IWS will prevent their first ever women’s match!

We’ve seen women in the IWS in the past, but never against each other (in fully clothed WRESTLING matches, anyway). This Saturday changes that, as we see IWS mainstay Vanessa Kraven take on the debuting Kacey Diamond - a former ALF champion.

Here is the run-down for Hardcore Heat, so far.
