IKE Sux! No Power!

Hi…

I haven’t been ignoring you. I’ve been without any electricity for eight days. For some reason - and despite getting hit pretty hard by the hurricane and declared a ’state of emergency’ - Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio aren’t getting ANY mention on the news. Trees, poles and live wires are all over the place; cars trashed from falling objects, roofs ripped off. We’ve been without power, hot water and gasoline all week. All of our people were dispatched down to Texas to help there, so getting help HERE has been slowed to a trickle.

The lights (happily) came back on today. I really thought I was going to spend my birthday this Wed in darkness since I’d been told “around 7 to 14 days” to get power. I can assure you that after the first twenty-four hours, ‘candle lit’ isn’t all that ‘romantic’ any more. Especially when yours is burning fast and Wal-Mart is completely sold out of wax. And ‘D’ batteries. And coolers. And ice. And flashlights. There was stupid, panicky chaos here and it was pretty scary to see how a simple power loss turned the sixteenth largest city in America completely upside down.

You really don’t realize how much you rely on electricity —- how crippled we all really are —- until it’s not there anymore.

But it could always have been worse than having to toss out a few hundred dollars worth of chicken and tilapia and missing the second episode of Entourage (even if you did wait nearly a year for it to come back on.)

I’m trying to get all caught up now. If you emailed me, I’ll do my best get back to you soon. I’m away again in TN tomorrow for the Lexie Fyfe wrestling photo shoot, but back in a day or so. In time for ColdStone cake and birthday suit.
