CHIKARA Blog: “Equinox” Jimmy Olsen Looks At The Past…and To THE FUTURE.

1/5/2009: When I look back at the early stages of last year, I can hardly recognize myself. No goal, no purpose. I was lost in the midcard shuffle that eats up promising talent and keeps them from breaking out as stars. For the longest time, people have told me that with my ability and skill, it was just a matter of time before I became a star. Sometime in the future, it was going to happen. Just wait for it.
In a weird way, if it wasn’t for the secret of the CHIKARA Special that Shane Storm traded away for a win over Hydra, I might still be lost in the crowd. If Vin Gerard hadn’t been unmasked at “The Sordid Perils of Everyday Existence”, and turned into a bitter whiner and malcontent, maybe we wouldn’t be here. But Vin Gerard wanted to show the world that even if he was a fraud of a luchador, he was a real master at playing mind games. He made a fool of me.
It’s fitting, in a way, that the former Shane Storm, STIGMA, should now be teamed with Gerard and my brother, Colin Delaney. They deserve each other. They have no one left anyway – no one wants to be around those guys. Gerard is the outcast of the locker room. STIGMA, traitor that he is, cast out by the man that mentored him and taught him how to wrestle. And Colin, sent in pursuit of his future endeavors, unwanted and tossed aside.

If you told me back at “Deuces Wild” that I’d be wrestling in main event matches before the year was over, I would have laughed in your face. But Vin Gerard woke a sleeping dragon. I owe a debt to Helios, who in a small way, gave me the idea to don the mask of Equinox. He needed a masked alter ego to accomplish certain ends. And the end I had in mind was revenge. Revenge for the humiliation Gerard served me. But just like Helios found out when he won the Young Lions Cup – a feat that eluded an unmasked guy named Ricochet – there is something empowering about putting on a mask. Becoming more than just another face in the crowd.
Fate might have brought me together with Lince Dorado back at “La Loteria Letal”, but it was by design that Helios joined us come “Face With a View”. I handpicked him for my Cibernetico squad, and when I saw him in action that weekend, I knew I was on the right track. If you want to wage a war, you better have an army, and I’ve picked the right people for mine. Even if we don’t want to admit it at times, the three of us have a lot in common. We have something to prove – whether it’s to ourselves, to the fans, or to certain other wrestlers. How does it taste, Vin, to see your hated persona, Equinox, finally ascend to the main events, victorious in some of the year’s most talked-about matches?
And now, Equinox is poised to take Vin Gerard’s precious Young Lions Cup away from him. The hard truth is, as Jimmy Olsen, the struggling singles wrestler, I wasn’t getting anywhere. Ricochet knows how that feels. In fact, the big talk backstage all through 2007 was how Lince Dorado was a star waiting to happen. Sometime down the line. Not today, but in the future. Well I’ve got news for you. Helios is a former Young Lions Cup champion. Lince Dorado won “La Loteria Letal” and “King of Trios” in the same year. And me? I just won the most grueling match CHIKARA has to offer at “Cibernetico Begins”. We’re no longer the developing stars of tomorrow; or soon-to-be-future-stars. The Future is Now.
